![]() Fleets were simply a means of getting around quicker, not necessarily a way of winning the game. Great Britain is my favorite, hands down.ġ) All other TW games have been about land dominance. I also very much like employing melee infantry, even the musellims can pack quite a punch, when used correctly. I'm not very good, at this point, at commanding either, particularly skirmishers so it has been a learning experience and great fun. You have to use very different tactics than the European factions, relying on your artillery and skirmishers (even more with the release of the DLC, which gave us an even greater range of skirmisher options). Besides, I like to keep my protectorates so you've got to be able to spare some troops to help out the Crimean Khanate (against Russia and Poland) and Barbary States (vs. You have to develop your economy and nurture some diplomatic relationships to be able to support a military large enough to protect it all. You have such a large area to defend, and your troops are inferior compared to the European factions. ![]() I haven't played the GC for all the major factions, yet but I've gotten stuck on the Ottoman Campaign. Next on the list, after I finish my Rome and Arverni campaigns, will be the Ptolemies.I'll have to echo Matador. Parthia: pure horse archer armies are fun and challenging. Then I traded with Rome to secure peace on the western front and struck out into the East. Set the Getae up as a client state in Dacia as a buffer zone to the north. I secured Greece, Thrace, Pannonia, and Illyricum. Makedon: I had great fun recreating Alexander’s campaign. Tactically, the combination of solid infantry, great cavalry, and respectable ranged units is nice. The Arverni: good use of confederation can help you build a solid empire fairly quickly. And others are basically Gallic, Hellenic, or Italic. Others are more like using Romans with a heavy reliance on Scutarii. They do the standard hammer (shock cavalry and elephants) and anvil (phalanx) really well. I have some armies that are mostly citizens. I like the variety from the available mercenary options. ![]() I really like Rome the best, but I’ve had great fun with several other factions.Ĭarthage: it’s a challenging start, but once you get going, you can build a very strong empire.
